Coronation Street fans will see big scenes ahead next week, from an icon making her debut to some life-changing news.
One character’s health deteriorates once more ahead of a sad death on the ITV soap, while another resident says their goodbyes in an emotional exit twist. There’s also a return for one character, risking someone’s secret coming to light.
There’s also a scary attack as one character is threatened by two masked thieves, leaving her terrified. Meanwhile, soap legend Ken Barlow could be getting a new love interest on the show. Here are the biggest moments happening next week on the ITV soap.
Icon joins show
Comedian Helen Lederer only has eyes for Bill Roache as she plays Ken Barlow’s new love interest in Coronation Street. On screen, Ken will prove he still has what it takes to woo the ladies when he catches the eye of Helen’s character Elspeth during a singles cocktail night at the Chariot Square Hotel.
Helen, 65, reckons Bill, 91, is just as dashing away from the cameras. She said: “I can see why Elspeth is interested in him – he is a real silver fox with very chiselled cheekbones.”
In next week’s March 27 episode, Elspeth sends drinks over to Ken and his son in law Steve. Elspeth is invited to join them, leaving Steve gutted that his father-in-law has hit it off with an attractive lady whilst he hasn’t met anyone. Asked how she ended up working on the ITV soap, Helen said the offer came “out of the blue”.
Daisy exposed

Coronation Street airs a return to the show for one former character next week, and it could spell trouble for Daisy Midgeley.
The character gets an “unwelcome visitor” as one character heads back to the Street four months after their last appearance. Daisy’s mother Christina Boyd returns, and she could expose Daisy’s big secret after a chat with her new partner Ryan Connor.
So much so, that spoilers reveal Daisy tries to send her mother packing when she heads to The Rovers to see her next week. Christina lied for her daughter back in November, to help cover her affair with Ryan from then fiancé Daniel Osbourne.
She’d gone to meet Ryan at a hotel only to change her mind, so she called her mum and begged her for an alibi. Daniel knew about the hotel visit and that Ryan was there, so Daisy claimed that she was with her mum.
Christina did as she asked, speaking to Daniel on the phone while Daisy was next to her. Daisy suggested Christina owed her after years of drama between them, so Christina did as she was told.
It did nothing to heal their relationship though, with her mother soon leaving again just before she and Daniel split for good. It seems things have not thawed either, as Daisy is not happy to see her mother – even after a lie to Ryan and others.
When Daisy and Jenny Connor recently bought the pub using the money killer Stephen Reid had stolen from Carla Connor’s factory before his death, they had to come up with a fake story about how they secured the money, initially not having any. So Daisy suggested her mother gave her the money and that’s what they used to purchase The Rovers.
But this might be rumbled next week, when Ryan lest slip to Christina about the money and the pub. When Christina arrives, Daisy tells her she is not welcome and to stay elsewhere, leaving Ryan stunned.
Ryan tells Christina it was very generous of her to give Daisy the huge sum of money, and offers her a drink as a thank you. But Christina obviously has no idea what he’s talking about and is left intrigued – so will she expose Daisy’s lies to the whole pub?
Sad exit
Coronation Street have confirmed a heartbreaking exit for one character in the Paul Foreman storyline. Paul – played by Peter Ash – has been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease and his eventual exit is expected to air later this year. He will struggle with his speech in this week’s episode, leading to fears for the whole family that Paul is deteriorating.
In a surprise turn of events on the ITV soap next week, Summer Spellman will be leaving the Cobbles as she decides she needs to follow her heart and head to Boston for her studies, leaving Paul and her other dads, Billy and Todd, behind.
During next week, Summer decides to book her flight whilst Billy agrees they need to have a roast together to celebrate her big movie. Whilst he begins cooking, Bernie takes Paul to his appointment with a speech therapist but there is devastating news ahead of the family when its confirmed that Paul might need to change to a feeding tube because of the MND.
Paul is told he can no longer eat solid food out of fear or choking and he is devastated but he puts on a brave front and tells Billy and Summer he can still eat their roast dinner if they liquidise the food. Billy and Summer sit down for dinner with Bernie, Todd and Paul but the latter feels very left out when he sits in front of his bowl of pureed food.
As they clear the plates away, Paul shares a silent tear as he struggles with what’s ahead for him. The next day, Billy, Paul and Todd bid an emotional farewell to Summer as she leaves Weatherfield and heads for Boston.
