Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) has hit a new low in Coronation Street following
sister Toyah’s (Georgia Taylor) cancer diagnosis.
Still firmly trapped under sinister cult leader Rowan Cunliffe’s (Emrhys Cooper) spell,
Leanne has managed to well and truly alienate herself from her family.
This comes just days after Toyah was told she has germ cell ovarian cancer, and will need an operation and possible chemotherapy.
At first, Leanne sobbed into her sister’s arms, but before long her warped view on reality saw her make an unusual link between her past trauma and present condition.
After Nick (Ben Price) – who has been having an affair with Toyah – leaped to her defence, Leanne agreed to rein in talking about the Altovalent Institute.
In tonight’s (24th July) episode, Toyah caught her talking to the AI version of Oliver about the situation, and Leanne had reached out to mum Janice (Vicky Entwistle) to inform her.
With emotions running high, she told her that she’d rather deal with the situation on her own, something with Leanne took rather literally when Rowan instructed her to follow that advice and cut off from the negativity.
Later, at the hospital, the nurse noticed that Toyah was married and asked if her husband was providing a good support network, unaware that Imran has since passed away.
In the corridor outside, she broke down and hugged Nick, with the two quickly realising that one of Rowan’s cronies was watching from afar and was taking photos of them both – threatening to expose the affair.
Erupting in anger, Nick charged to the Chariot Square Hotel to confront him and dealt a powerful blow to his nose. Hotelier Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) was adamant to call the police, but Rowan said he didn’t want to press charges.
Leanne urged Nick to apologise, and thought that perhaps Toyah was mistaken over the photos that had been taken.
Back at Victoria Court, Leanne asserted that she was going to withdraw emotionally and actively disconnect from Toyah whilst she was receiving treatment.
Disgraceful.
After some concerns from Toyah that their brief fling could be on the brink of exposure, she warned Nick to start behaving more like a brother-in-law. However, it seems his emotions lie a lot deeper – he told brother David (Jack P. Shepherd) that he’s falling in love with her.
