The very surprising runaway favourite to win the Gold Logie can be revealed.
Julia Morris, Robert Irwin, Larry Emdur, Sonia Kruger, Asher Keddie, Andy Lee and Tony Armstrong are up for the top gong on Australian TV’s night of nights.
But betting site Sportsbet has one clear favourite to take home the coveted award, with Irwin at narrow $2.25 odds to clinch the gold in just his first year as a nominee
The 20-year-old was nominated alongside co-host Morris for his hosting debut on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
Seven’s Larry Emdur and ABC’s Tony Armstrong are equal second-favourites at $3.50 each.
Andy Lee is fourth at $6, and Robert’s co-host Morris is a relative outsider at $13.
Meanwhile, last year’s winner Sonia Kruger is at the extremely long odds of $15, and Asher Keddie is the biggest outsider at $17.
Robert has become one of the youngest ever to be considered for the prestigious accolade, which recognises the best in the Australian TV industry.
His nomination comes just months after he made his TV co-hosting debut on Ten’s I’m A Celebrity.
But Home and Away veteran Lynne McGranger, 71, took a swipe at Robert after his nomination in the Most Popular Personality category as she commented on his lack of TV experience.
‘I’m sorry but ol’mate Irwin has been on telly for a bloody minute!! No disrespect intended,’ she wrote in a cheeky swipe.
Her comment came in support of her friend Larry, 59, who took to Instagram to share an amusing exchange he had with his friend after his nomination.
He shared a screenshot of a text message where his friend congratulated him on his nomination, before quipping that he’d be ‘voting for Robert Irwin’.
Larry joked in a caption: ‘I’m a lucky guy to have such supportive friends in this brutal Logies battle,’ prompting Lynne’s comment in support of his battle for the Logie.
Despite only just launching his mainstream TV career, Robert is also vying for the Bert Newton Award for Most Popular Presenter.
