Matthew Wolfenden lands first major TV gig after quitting Emmerdale

Former Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden will reportedly return to our screens soon, months after his departure from the ITV soap – and has also signed on the dotted line for a panto stint.

Matthew left his role as David Metcalfe last November, after playing him for a massive 16 years.

The character departed the village for a new life in London after finding out his son Jacob (Joe-Warren Plant) had started a relationship with his ex Victoria (Isabel Hodgins).

Unable to see them together, David packed his bags and left, ready to reunite with daughter Amba and her mum Priya (Fiona Wade).

Now, he is set to be making a return to our screens in the upcoming series of Celebrity Antiques Roadtrip.

The show, which airs on BBC Two, sees a variety of household names team up to find antiques, and make more money from second hand items at auctions than they spent buying them

Speaking to The Sun, a source said: ‘Matthew has signed up for the show – he thinks it’ll be a laugh and fun to be on TV as himself not his soap character.’

Metro.co.uk has contacted the BBC for a comment.

While we don’t know a great deal about this upcoming series of the popular show, we do know former EastEnders stars Max Bowden and Danielle Harold are also set to feature, as the two were also recently spotted a small town in Gloucestershire with presenter Ishy Khan.

Elsewhere, he’s due to take to the stage in a production of Jack in the Beanstalk at the Sunderland Empire this Christmas.

Matthew is no stranger to musical theatre, having performed as Buddy in Elf The Musical, plus further stage credits in Aladdin, Saturday Night Fever and Romeo and Juliet.

‘Where better to spend Christmas than at the Sunderland Empire, one of the most beautiful theatres in the land. Can’t wait to see you there!’

The theatre has teased a reimagined version of the classic tale combined with 3D effects.

Sounds fancy!
