Initially, DD suspects Joel might be playing mind games, but her search leads her to a receipt from November and eventually to a jeweler that reveals a connection to Lauren Bolton. DD’s investigation brings her to Weatherfield General Hospital, where she learns Lauren is planning to move to Belfast—coincidentally the same city Joel supposedly visited for work.

Realizing the coincidence, DD confronts Joel, but he quickly masks his anger and manipulates the situation. Cheni Sterling-Brown describes DD’s struggle to gather concrete evidence against Joel, noting that Joel is a masterful liar and manipulator. Despite small revelations about Joel’s true nature, DD understands the need for solid proof while remaining cautious of his deceptive abilities.

As DD delves into Lauren’s abduction, she becomes increasingly determined to bring Joel to justice.
