Ken Barlow has made a risky decision as Amy’s cult story continues in Coronation Street.
Amy has recently been lured into joining The Institute at the suggestion of family friend Leanne
Battersby. The group’s leader Rowan subsequently encouraged Amy to donate her inheritance to the
group.
In Monday’s (August 26) episode, Amy was having doubts about giving Rowan the money before her uploading session.

Leanne sat in during the dramatic uploading where Amy re-lived the trauma of her rape. Leanne was shocked to see that Rowan was recording Amy’s supposedly private therapy session.
When Leanne confronted Rowan later about recording such sensitive information, the cult leader insisted the video was made strictly for training purposes and would be deleted.
Leanne asked whether or not The Institute recorded her uploading session, but Rowan insisted they hadn’t. Any doubts Leanne was starting to have were swayed when Amy revealed she felt unburdened by the uploading session.

Amy even approached Ken about releasing her inheritance money so she could invest it in The Institute. Ken was sceptical about the business decision, reminding Amy that the money was supposed to help her buy a house or start a business.
Amy fumed, telling her grandad: “By the time you release that money, all it will pay for is my funeral plan.”
After Amy had stormed out, Tracy reminded Ken that Amy is a grown woman and has the right to use the money as she sees fit.
“I just worry for her,” Ken explained. “To be honest, I feel the burden of responsibility.”
At the pub, Leanne approached Ken to convince him to change his mind. Leanne spoke about Amy being “a central part” of The Institure’s new resource center.
“I wouldn’t get Amy involved in something that wasn’t good for her,” Leanne promised.
Ken finally agreed to release Amy’s inheritance, but he admitted to Leanne he had doubts about whether it was the right thing to do.
