The Coronation Street legend shared what could be ahead for Steve MacDonald, following the breakdown of his marriage with Tracy Barlow
Steve McDonald was left heartbroken when Tracy Barlow called time on their marriage, confessing she’d been having an affair with Tommy Orpington and admitting she’d been feeling bored with their life.
The Coronation Street cabbie has since tried to fix their relationship but with Tracy choosing to leave the ITV cobbles to go to Spain and live with Tommy in scenes due to air this week, Steve is faced with an array of possibilities according to the actor who portrays him, Simon Gregson.
Speaking to Yahoo! News, the 49-year-old actor shared his hopes to see his character dive back into the dating pool as he recovers from his recent breakup.
“I think it would be great if we see Steve having to go down the route of speed dating, online dating”, Simon suggested, although he confessed he would rather see Steve stay single “for a while.”
“Steve could have a full on mid life crisis, maybe we could see him losing weight, changing his appearance, going to the gym”, he added, “it could be a lot of fun and also a great excuse for me to make some changes in real life!”
But with drama always lurking round every corner in Weatherfield, Steve could be set for another whirlwind romance as Simon revealed who he’d like to see his character canoodle with. “I think anyone will do. At this point in Steve’s life he’d be lucky to have anybody”, the actor continued.
Soap fans recently slammed Coronation Street as Tracy rocked up to No.1 after Monday’s (April 1, 2024) instalment of the long-running program.
Tracy decided to give her tempestuous romance with Steve another try, despite breaking things off with him first, assuring him that she had forgotten all about Tommy ( Matt Milburn ).
Many fuming viewers were appalled to see Tracy and Steve being brought back together with one notably noting: “So, now that the Tommy O storyline has finished, Tracey and Steve are back together. Lazy writing or what?”
But with Tracy’s upcoming move to Spain with Tommy, as he gears up for a coaching job abroad, Steve will soon have to face life as a single man again.
