TV Choice Awards 2024: Happy Valley has double triumph for its final series as show’s Sarah Lancashire is named Best Actress while Emmerdale bags the Best Soap gong

Happy Valley had a double win at the TV Choice Awards on Monday after its final series aired last year.

The show was named the winner of the Best Drama Series gong after going up against Heartstopper on NetflixChannel 5‘s All Creatures Great and Small, and ITV1’s Vera.

Sarah Lancashire, 59, who played Catherine Cawood, won the Best Actress prize.

Around 7.5 million viewers watched the climax to the BBC One drama, which saw James Norton‘s escaped convict Royce set himself ablaze in the kitchen of the embattled officer played by Sarah – making it one of the most-watched single shows of the year.

This year’s winners were announced at a glittering ceremony – hosted by Tom Allen, with the comedian anchoring the event for the first time – at the London Hilton on Park Lane, where TV’s biggest names gathered.

The TV Choice Awards 2024 celebrated another great year in TV and the glitzy ceremony saw some of Britain’s biggest celebrity names scoop the coveted trophies, as voted for by the British viewing public.

Emmerdale was named Best Soap, having last won in 2022, while cast member Jeff Hordley, 53, who plays Cain Dingle, scored his first TV Choice Awards as he triumphed in the Best Soap Actor category.

Dame Maureen Lipman, 77, who plays Evelyn Plummer in Coronation Street, won the Best Soap Actress prize, while Martin Clunes, 62, won Best Actor for his part in Doc Martin.

Elsewhere, Beyond Paradise won in the Best New Drama category, while Call The Midwife won Best Family Drama and Mrs Brown’s Boys won Best Comedy Show.

I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! and I’m A Celeb South Africa win in the Best Reality Show category, both Gogglebox and Celebrity Gogglebox won the Best Entertainment Show prize.

The Martin Lewis Money Show Live which airs on ITV1 won the Best Lifestyle Show prize, BBC One’s Animal Park was named the winner of the Best Daytime Show gong, James Martin’s Saturday Morning which is broadcast on ITV won in the Best Food Show category, and Channel 5’s Winter on the Farm and Springtime on the Farm won the Best Factual Show award.

The Great British Bake Off, Bake Off The Professionals, Junior Bake Off and The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice won the Best Talent Show award, while ITV1’s The Chase won Best Game Show and Netflix was named Favourite Channel/Streaming Site.

While it didn’t win, The Traitors was nominated in the category of Best Reality Show alongside I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!, Queer Eye and At Home With The Furys.
